E-Class (W212/C207/A207) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG (W212) revealed

The Mercedes-Benz W212 is the fourth generation of the E-Class range. Body styles: sedan/saloon (W212), estate/wagon (S212). Coupé and convertible models of the W212 E-Class generation are W204 C-Class based and known as the C207 and A207, replacing the CLK-Class (C209 and A209) coupé and cabriolet. Production: 2009–2016. Predecessor: W211 E-Class. Successor: W213 E-Class.
I think what Sunny is saying is that it is all matterless as of right now because the E63 has to face down more powerful cars in the here and now, not 3.5 years later. If it isn't fact right now then it is speculation really. Sure we can point to past doings as an indication of what AMG/M/RS will do, but as of 3/31/09 or 4/1/09 (depending on where everyone is from) the E63 is down on power for the segment.

I really don't care until the reviews come in and they say its underpowered because we don't know how the thing drives just yet.

this car will probably be the best one till M5 arrives

And that is what I said will probably be not be the case considering how there are more powerful cars in the segment now. When others said, wait till the face lift and how the whole 'talking about the fl already' argument started. Of course there could be a surprise and the car could be better than the rest despite being down on power. Power is not everything when it comes to performance, others have shown that, just not AMG, which usually relays on overpowering the competition. But maybe this is a new beginning.

The AMG treatment really does improve the basic styling to where it needs to be.

Bad ass, just plainly badass. I'm glad it's getting Multi clutch technology. More power and better MPG is always good.

I don't understand why it takes BMW 1-1.5 years to introduce the M version after the normal series, while mercedes introduces the AMG version almost at the same time of their new model.
Now Mercedes promises the E63 will be a real handler (Like what we saw in the C63) already at the E-class introducuction - so I don't know how much BMW will improve the M5 in those 1.5years and if it's justified, while it's loosing customers for MB ???
Why can't BMW test and perfect the M5 now??? They have the know-how and they already have the engine (from the X5M/X6M probably)

I kind of know (or think I know) the reason behind M taking their time, but I'd rather let Scott or Eni answer that better than me. As for ///M losing customers to AMG, I wouldn't be too sure about that man. There are those who very stringently strict to the ///M philosophy. Me being one of them. I wouldn't buy an M5 over an E63 but I sure as hell would NEVER buy a C63 over the M3. :t-cheers:

Its pretty much marketing........introducing the M5 later on (but not too late like Audi does with its RS models) keeps the 5-Series fire burning. Of course they could bring both cars out at the same time, but introducing the M5 later on adds to the anticipation....it is conspicuous by its absence at the introduction of a new 5 thus you'll notice and appreciate it more when it arrives.

I'm with you on this one. Introducing the M version a year or so later keeps the fire burning and maybe more importantly, gives M a really good evaluation of the base model, giving them time to adjust the M version accordingly.

RS is always way too late.

Looks amazing! I think the steering actually looks quite nice. The front is nice and agressive.

Would love to see how the updated E63 compares to the E60 M5.

Well, you fight with what you bring. Talking about if and when is sought of pointless, it is not like others are standing still either. I can see how that could be a valid argument towards the end of the life cycle of a model, but the very first day of a new model? That is kind of lame.

Huh? AFAIK this is the first day of the new model, it so happens to have the engine carried over from the old car. And it will have to make do with it for the next few years. And the car as it exists today will be compared to other cars in the same segment and probably loose too (I frankly don't know, but I wouldn't bet against it). Of course if one wants to make excuses, that is a different matter.

Lol.dude what r are talking about?:D

Slow down and read my comment again:eusa_doh:

I wasn't making any excuses or anything, everyone one here knows the future AMG engines plans i was just saying a reminder of what to come for the FL.This engine is here just till the new TT V8s are ready.

I think u should stick to BMW M engines news or something..;):D

It is not getting a multi clutch transmission. Just the single clutch setup used in the FL SL63. But yes, much better than the torque converter used in C63. I think the first MB with a dual clutch transmission will be the SLS.
Sunny you're correct about the single wet clutch in this new transmission replacing the traditional torque convertor, however, technically speaking, it is a so-called multi-clutch gearbox because of the conventional automatic gearbox mechanicals (wherein clutches are used to engage planetary gearsets) which make use of two or more clutches.

It's all marketing spiel of course, because any maker could refer to an ordinary torque convertor box as "multi-clutch" technology. Quite clever really because not many people - including so many members of this forum - have a cooking clue about the different automated gearbox mechanicals.

Instead, the uninformed read MCT as being multiple clutch, and thus superior, to a DCT 'box with just two clutches. In fact, the latter is quite clearly the most sophisticated configuration: A dual clutch gearbox is actually two gearboxes in one with its "shaft-within-a-shaft" concept, the two clutches work in unison to perform two functions. The first of which is to transfer engine power to the gearbox and the other is to transition the shift of power from one set of ratios to another. This is quite different from the MCT box which merely uses one clutch to couple engine drive to the regular auto transmission in series. The auto-tranny then uses conventional auto tech to shift ratios.

So, it will be a while before we see a new forced induction AMG engine unit coupled with a true Dual Clutch technology transmission. The power wars may not quite be over but they're definitly on Pause for now. And it's very obvious as to why...

It's pretty freaking pathetic you have to start about a facelift and new engine already, but whatever.

Anyways, I like this looks. Not bad at all. The center console with these new buttons and new gearlever is the best part of this AMG model. For the rest I think I was a bit more impressed with the C63 AMG. This car looks a bit tame for my taste, although I know that's the intention of the E AMG.
And those square tailpipes look very good. Well done Hussein, you must be extremely proud (I am already proud we have a designer of the new AMG here as a member, imagine ;) )

Double clutch forced induction AMG engine (V8 TT, well over 600 hp) in the SLS AMG: coming soon!

so the MCT is similar to the SMG transmission found on the E60 M5, (sequential single clutch)?

Any info regarding how much the car weighs?? currently, that is my only and biggest concern, that will define this car's straight line performance and agility ... :t-hands:

thanks

No, I didn't read it that way in the press release klier, the SLS "Gullwing" will have an enhanced version of the current naturally aspirated M156 6.208cc AMG V8. But it remains naturally aspirated.

No, it's not. The SMG gearbox in the M5 is an automated manual gearbox, in other words it makes use of most of the manual gearbox's internal mechanicals (constant mesh gears, synchromeshes, selector forks) coupled with a conventional clutch. The difference here is that its operation is robotised or automated by electro-hydraulic actuation. So, an electronic signal is received as an instruction for a gear change by the electronic control unit and this then triggers hydraulic devices to move gear selector forks and actuate the clutch.

MCT is a regular Mercedes 7 speed automatic gearbox that makes use of the commonplace planetary or epicyclic gear sets to control gear ratio. What differentiates it is that now, a mechanical clutch connects the engine to gearbox as opposed to a torque convertor which connects the engine to the gearbox via transmission fluid (hence the term "slushbox"). As for the selection of gear ratios, the transmission operates in exactly the same way as the traditional autobox, using hydraulic pressure to engage and disengage the clutches linked to the various epicyclic gearsets.
