    4. Bugatti

      Italian born Ettore Bugatti produced his first car in 1899 at the age of 19. In 1909 he started his factory in Molsheim, Alsace. Bugattis were known for their advanced engineering in their premium road cars. The company's success culminated with driver Jean-Pierre Wimille winning the 24 hours of Le Mans twice (in 1937 with Robert Benoist and 1939 with Pierre Veyron). Volkswagen AG purchased the rights to produce cars under the Bugatti marque in 1998.

      Ferrari S.p.A. is based in Maranello, Italy. It was founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929 as Scuderia Ferrari. The company sponsored drivers and manufactured race cars before moving into production of street-legal vehicles in 1947 as Ferrari S.p.A.. Throughout its history, the company has been noted for its continued participation in racing, especially in Formula One, where it has enjoyed great success. It is currently owned by Fiat S.p.A.

The company was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company by Sir William Lyons in 1922, originally making motorcycle sidecars before switching to passenger cars.       Cadillac is the oldest automobile manufacturer to originate in Detroit, Michigan. The company is named after the French explorer who founded the city. General Motors purchased Cadillac in 1909 and that same year Cadillac produced almost 6,000 vehicles. Over six million vehicles had been built by the end of the 1970s; Cadillac celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2002.

      Dodge was founded by John and Horace Dodge, who began manufacturing bicycles in 1899. In 1910 the Dodge brothers set out to become the biggest auto parts manufacturers, and in 1914 they unveiled the first Dodge car. Dodge cars and trucks became known for their ruggedness, and in 1928 Dodge was purchased by the Chrysler Corporation. It is now a part of the Chrysler Group LLC which has an alliance with Fiat.
