Yeah. The lack of a character line makes the appearance of the side somewhat awkward, if not completely bland when comparing this model to the Cooper, which can do with out a character line because of it's shorter length that compensates for the lack of a character line.

Werd.

The problem is all-black-on-all-black combination of this prototype:

black body, black fenders, black rocker panels, black bumpers, black roof, ...

Wait to see more normal color combinations.

Also a Cooper in such color combination (all in black) looks weird ...

Yes "Hot Chocolate"and "Lightning Blue" really show the car well...

i have seen the car in person and i have to say that it is a real stunner
i really would like to congratulate bmw on this one, if the marketing is right(which i expect) its going to be a huge hit for the mini brand
i just hope that they can also work this out for the mini suv

It's a BMW product, better yet it's a MINI. Of course it will be a hit.

i'm just raising this question, because what i have heard is the Mini SUV(Moke?) based on the platform of X1 and i'm really curious if they are able to separate those to vehicles far enought from each other
but anyways, i don't want to go too of topic

I'm not digging this at all so far.

The MINI -Max - MINI-Activity-CrossOver . We do no have licence for Moke as of current.

just do me a favor - don't go with "max" - i reminds me too much on ford vans...

There's another one on Motoringfile. Some quirky advertisements for a quirky but ultra cool brand. Some people made comments on the commercials saying how "unsophisticated" the message is, when it actuality the slightly humerous advertising suits the unique character of the Clubman quite well- wouldn't expect young yuppie types to "get it".

The good thing with \MINI is that we are not restrained by the advertising image associated with BMW - sophistication and visual imagery. With MINI we are allowed to get creative and have fun at the same time .

Although we are using a humorous approach to the MINI Clubman we will also be showing our creative side on the fact that Clubman although is the "other" MINI it still has the DNA and fun factor of MINI.

Pardon my lateness to the thread... I'm curious which demographic/psycographic of consumers the Clubman will target ??

The Cooper I see as target new, youthful couples who have not yet begun a family, as well as the young 'teeny-bopper' market of females in high-school college/uni... but what about the Clubman though?

BMW see the MINI Clubman as the "Lifestyle" MINI which will offer utility for various lifestyles without sacrificing the MINI's characteristic handling and image. Optional equipment will reflect this snowboard/surfboard racks etc..

The Clubman will target those who aren't looking at the Mini as not so much a novelty but a practical means from point A to point B and need added versatility and utility that the Coopers size isn't capable of offering. So I'd say young families for sure, and anyone else who wants a larger Cooper.

Clubman ... for those who want a Cooper with a backpack.

Consider it as a Cooper with more space ... for your baby, for your pet, for your sports equipment, for your shopping bags etc.


Just like the Cabrio is a Cooper with canvas retracting roof - to enjoy the sun & wind, Clubman is a Cooper with backpack - to enjoy more space.




There are many people out there who just adore MINI (Cooper) , but consider it too small with not enough space - and Clubman is a perfect solution for them: typical MINI shape, design, extravagance, funkiness, driving experience - yet with more space.

Thanks for the replies guys.... so in simple it targets the same market as the Cooper, except for those buyers who want to put more 'junk in the trunk' (as Fergie would say).

I like the thinking behind the Clubman...so it should be a hit. So is Mini/BMW expecting the Clubman to be their top-seller, or will the Cooper still be their cash-cow?

I tend to agree with others here... it does seem a bit bland and block-like from the side, but more professional pics in various colours will hopefully change that.

I think, for the first year at least, the Cooper will have the majority of MINI sales. I'd say after buyers become more aware of the Clubman perhaps sales will pick up quite a bit, but I can't see it overtaking the Cooper for sales- it's cheaper, and most importantly it's the essence of MINI.

Me too , really pysched about it. last years was fantastic... Got my Ipod already stocked up with some bouncing tunes for the drive from Germany in my Laser Blue/White - R56 MINI Cooper S in precession with other MINI's,
Zandvoort, already entered into the navigation. Petrol tank brimmed...
I fly home on Sunday so two days @ work and then...

Lets MINI! , Zandvoort is gonna Rock!
