Current generation CLS has been on the market since 2004 and it is time for the second generation to step in. Earlier there were rumors that the new CLS will be based on S-Class instead of E-Class. Judging from these photos it looks like CLS will stick to the E-Class platform.

Unfortunately photographer only got a good view of the side and rear. Don’t worry as we will be seeing this car a lot more before Mercedes makes it official.

It seems that the rear window is much bigger and the car sits lower than the current version. Rear will go down just like it goes on the current model. Just try to imagine it without that temporary camouflage on the boot. It also looks like the car is going to be shorter compared to the current generation CLS.

Engine options will likely include the new S400 BlueHybrid and V6 and V8 powerplants. Top of the line models will get the usual AMG treat.

From what can be seen I think the proportions are pretty good.

Well Merc is really expanding the E class platform to a host of different models. Now that the CLK is the E class coupe won't these cars be competing with themselves? Who knows. But you know that the E coupe will be positioned above the E saloon and then the CLS above the E coupe?

In any event, this is exciting.

I was expecting a larger cls then the current one this looks a tad smaller and that rear windscerrn is either huge like the cl or its a panoromic roof.

I hope its as stunning and different as the current cls i miss my white cls 350 more then any other car i had.it was just awesome hope this one turns out even better..................When is this car expected on the market

by the look of the arch camouflage, the rear boot and the swooping side line, i think huck is on the money

It is extremely difficult to design such a great designed car new…I hope, the designer will do everything right…and that the car will not become to angular and lose its special design…

Finally1! We known roughly what the exterior will look like now I'm curious about the interior.

The roofline is very promising (similar to the current model).

The glossy-roof is very spectacular, reducing the roof to two archs, a quite spectacular appearence (more than other cars with pano-roof given the very low height of the car, and the very curvy roof)!

It indeed seems close to Huck's PS. Yummy!!

As andyvalencia already pointed out, the rear does resemble to Huckfeldt's impression. Despite its heavy camouflage, the shape of the trunklid and the cut-out of the rear bumper. Also the rear lights stretching far inwards.

Anyway, Huckfeldt seems to be wrong about one thing and that is the positioning of the rear-view mirrors. It's not attached near the pillar of the window anymore but on the door itself as can be seen on the photos. I find it to be an interesting development since all Mercedes cars except certain classics don't have mirrors attached like that.
Assuming that the mirrors will stay that way, I believe the car must be pretty wide on the flanks otherwise it would look kind of odd in my opinion.

But i have to admit that even though from the first moment I saw the current CLS thought that this is a banana, it has really grown on me, and i really appreciate its design! I could even call it a classic one!

I don't see anything, but banana... Unfortunately.

Check out the side mirrors are mounted on the door, and not into the window frame. That is one complaint about the CLS. You can't see the mirrors well because of the roofline.

Yet the CLS looks better than most if not any BMW this side of the M3.

I to believe Huck is right on the money, right down to the taillight shape (even though thay are covered, the camo usually gives indication to the shape). I also believe he is right about the rear wheel arch. It`s designed just like the new E-Class except it bows down with the flow of the bootlid.

I pray he is right about the front because I really like his impression
a lot, far better than the current model! I pray it turns out this way!



The front (espicially the headlight design) on the current CLS is quit obviously it`s weakest issue..without the AMG kit.

I don't think some of the front details are going to be like that GTA, he already got the placement of the mirrors wrong as tennmb pointed out. I think we can expect more of a Concept Fascination type look for the front bumper with LEDs of course.

I believe most of the details are currect!
Huck is usually about 95-98% spot on with the basics. I mean look how close he was to the E-Class and this impression is more than a year old.





Sure, he`s not going to be spot 100% on.. I agree with you about the little details but I believe we can agree being this late with the CLS impression we have a good idea what it will look like!

Still don't like the new E at all. I'll be getting me a nice 08 or 09 W211 E350 4Matic in a year or so.

I think for a car like the E-class choosing a design is fairly constrained, most of the different sketchs will probably be fairly similar. While a car like the CLS I feel most of the designers are working with a clean slate and Huck just happened to stumble on one of them like he always does.

That's why I'm not holding my breath on the detailing too much, as that could change in a heart beat (err 2 years).

No 05' E55?

Don't think I want and added expensive of keeping up a monster like that (unless something changes by then) and I simply must have a facelifted model. Would have to be an E63 if I went the AMG route.
