Re: The new Citreon C5. Unmistakably German. Made in France.

As a Francophile, I find it sad that the French seem to be having some kind of identity crisis (much like the British). Historically, the French have given us some of the most refined and exquisite things ever made (including some of the great luxury automobiles of the past) ....so why the hell they can't create a decent car in 2008 is beyond me.

Re: The new Citreon C5. Unmistakably German. Made in France.

What is it with every other country claiming there cars as european inspired blah blah? Most of them are half asses attempt at 'German made' and so buyers decide to go for the real German experience. Toyota doesn't claim their cars are German inspired and look at their sales. Compare this to most makers who claim German inspiration......

Lexus on the other hand plain and simple say they have "beaten the Germans at their own game".

I see a trend... Buyers don't want 'attempted' German, they want 'real' German. So stop offering attmpted German car, other makers, and start to build your own indentity.

Re: The new Citreon C5. Unmistakably German. Made in France.

Too bad I have no sound here.
But it looks humoristic... Beating the Germans at their own game...

That is right however that Citroen should highlight its Frenchiness instead of looking at the dark side of the Rhin...

Cars like the C6 (what a huge sale success BTW...) are much more Citroen than the C5. It looks good, however it looks like everything but like a Citroen.

That said...given the sales of C6, I'm not that surprised that the C5 is playing the safe card! The 407 is quite Germanic too, and the Laguna wants to establish itself as a car of German-quality.

I don't know how good were the sales of the "very Citroen" C3 and C4 outside of France, but here they are really appreciated and had excellent sales. The C5 wants to be sold in the whole Europe, not only in France, and for that you have to look and feel like a German car.
I wish they had the same courage as Renault and its Megane...and vel Satis and Avanttime...

Gone are the days of the French cars glory...Facel Vega, Bugatti, Delahaye, Panhard, and of course Citroen with the Traction, DS, SM, 2cv...
Now French means quite cheap, quite unreliable, but comfortable and innovative. Not enough to sell well in this segment.

Re: The new Citreon C5. Unmistakably German. Made in France.

I agree this is not very smart. but quite funny, and at least it makes one clear: this car is built like a German car. (according to the ad)

To be honest, if they don't show the Citroen logo at the end everybody will think this is the Passat CC...

I feel sorry for Citroen to neglige their fabulous past.
But there is no real contradiction here, is it? A French car that is even better than a German one...but still stays French. No contradiction, only a kind of jealousy, and the refusal of its own particularities...

i don't really think that ctroen needs to compare them with german manufactors - they already proved with the C6 that they are back again
they need an image booster with something like an elegant sport coupé

In Canada at least, it's been a few years now that advertizing has taking this tone. Many manufacturer's use some sort of tagline that implies German engineering.

Most recently, Subaru's Impreza tagline is: "The Japanese car the Germans wished they made"...

Yes...a new SM...would be great!

Siko, I think you got a point. Ads can be very different fron one country to another.

I can see a hint of Ford Mondeo in the C5

I don't know what you mean. The C5 is as much French design as can be, especially in the interior. I doubt too many people will think it's a German car.

The slogan just doesn't make sense. "Unmistakeably German"? That's what a real German brand would use not a foreign manufacturer.

Re: The new Citreon C5. Unmistakably German. Made in France.

That's sad and stupid.. especially coming from Citroen with its glorious history of representing the French design and engineering!
What were they thinking?

I asolutely love the new C5.. seen it the other day in person and was amazed by it, this ad is just stupid and would hurt the integrity of Citroen.
I wonder whether they're gonna show it in France too.

A crap commercial for what satisfaction surveys soon will prove it's unmistakeably crappy car.

I also didn't like French cars but i have to admit that Peugeot 207 and 308 that i saw recently are a quantum leap forward in terms of build quality.

Renault will definitely improve now that Ghosn is behind the sterring wheel also.

Imho the advert is a critic to those who think that only German cars can be great.
