While there are many thing I don't like about AMG - automatic transmission mainly and wooden handling. This is one thing I really admire AMG/Merc for - for bringing the AMG versions right out with the normal ones unlike M which takes 2 years and Audi that takes for ever.

Mercedes is stretching itself too thin by trying to fill every niche in the market place. It's a purely financial move, but it's absurd regardless. They lose their image, their style, etc. but most importantly, they lose their exclusivity.

Mercedes seems to have prescribed to the theory that "if you get them while they're young, you get them for life." But the truth of the matter is that the incentive people have to buy Mercedes is not "because I had one when I was a kid" but because they're something that people strive for. They're a symbol of excellence and success. -- And I'm quite sure the BMW crowd thinks so of their cars as well.

There is another interior shot in this weeks Autocar magazine. We might be able to see it if AC put it on their website. Its looks the same as the previous interior shot but was more clear. Lets see if it manages to find its way on the net...

This true, but unlike some here that still think a Mercedes should be Roll-Royce like, a Mercedes was always a road worthy car, not a lifeless barge like a Rolls, Buick or Lexus. I don't think anyone wants to see MB build a better BMW, but to say they're supposed to stay trapped in the past and not build a car that is better to drive than the previous generation is closed-mindedness 101.

They're the pinnacle of luxury, styling and handling. Good handling is not the only aspect of "sporty driving." Making handling better in no way cripples Mercedes' long standing design philosophy.

Wow..that's incredible looking. It looks like, finally, a good variation of the 1995-2001 C-class.

Yeah, it seems like its out with the pretty and perky and in with the solid, elegant traditional benz. Still, I hope they have some edgier styling cues incorporated as well, like on the new CL.

Hopefully subtle elegance makes a comeback in Mercedes.

I'm sure that the headlights will come out well and it will probably not have this eyebrow BMW 5:er thing going on.

You can really see the body here. They kill me with just picking up any wheels that are laying around at the time of testing.

Well that's like saing, we BMW fans already know the M3 will win on corners and on the track.

most likely that would be the case..
but then again there is a possibility that AMG will be as quick in corners.. but its just as slim as the possibility that the M3 will be quicker in a straight forward race

M customer: It took me an eternity to take that corner; I switched to AMG cause I have life and don't want to waste most of it on corners.

Not necessarily. Look at the W203 C55 vs the E46 M3. The C55's handling prowess is very comparable to the M3 (if you go by the lap times, slalom speeds, and skidpad grip numbers). The M3 does not blow the C55 away at all.....if anything, they are almost equal.

If MB-AMG wanted to make the upcoming C-AMG car to be a track star, it can......the only question is how much comfort do they want to sacrifice to achieve that goal. My guess is that they will compromise on the handling abilities to get that balance of comfort/agility.

I'm eager to see a RS4, C63 and M3 sedan comparison. It will be the battle of the decade.

Yeah it seems as though MB is back to developing cars they way they did beofre Shremp, the spy photos are endless from all around the world. For months and months sometimes years before the car is officially shown. To think this car won't see daylight until next March at Geneva. I'll be tired of seeing spy pics long before that!

You're kidding it's coming out in March?? I thought it was debuting in September and going on sale a month or so afterwards.

Nope, March is what I saw recently at worldcarfans or thecarconnection.com. March sounds about right with an onsale date in Europe right after that and fall in the U.S. as a 2008 model. In Sept the CL officially debuts and some rumored AMG versions (V8) of the S/CL, Paris.
