New C-Class Sportcoupe aka CLC (Spy pics & info)

This is a discussion on New C-Class Sportcoupe aka CLC (Spy pics & info) within the C-Class forums, part of the Mercedes-Benz category; I wonder if the C will get the new mirrors in '09, though I think the C's are specifically designed ...

I wonder if the C will get the new mirrors in '09, though I think the C's are specifically designed that way to mirror the headlights.

The C "Fuel Economy" concepts was shown with these mirrors; this even was their first appeirance actully.

One is sure, if I had a C-Class the first thing I would do would be to put these lovely mirrors instead of the ugly giant ears it has.

AFAIK there are no plans for the CLC to be sold in the US. I mean MB took out the C-Class Sportcoupe of the American market because of poor sales. The CLC probably won't do well in the US anyway so why bother bringing it over?

However, I guess we'll have to wait for the official MB press release. If the BMW 135i can be popular, maybe a 305-hp CLC350 could be too.

Re: New C-Class Sportcoupe aka CLC (Spy pics & info)

Here is that picture, but larger, from Swedish AMuS site (click):

I hope it retains the little see-thru window of the old coupe; that seemed like an effective, practical design. And gives illusion of a slimmer rear.

Photoshopping around the mirror looks weak.

Online translators seem to murder the Swedish language, so here are the brief points:

"Soon am arriving the another bokstavskombination that hold order on with Mercedes: CLC. Model sneak out on fair via a modevisning in Berlin next week and initiates sell in May. Foremost competitors is BMW 1- series coupé."

Available engines
Diesel
2.2L 4-cylinder, 136hp and 170hp (currently 122 and 150 PS)
Gasoline
1.8L 4-cylinder w/kompressor, 156hp and 184hp (currently 143 and 163 PS)
2.5L V6, 204hp
3.5L V6, 274hp

"All motors combine as standard with six-speed manual box...
Motors are modernized and give up to 11 percent lower [consumption?] compared to the old Sportcoupé.
CLC ska as hittills build in Brazil, which imply that celebrated able have one's way on competitive level: CLC find that buys in Germany from 28.000 Euro when sale initiates in May."

That compares with 27.549 EUR for the current 6-sp manual C180 Kompressor with 143 PS.

Re: New C-Class Sportcoupe aka CLC (Spy pics & info)

The cabrio looks nasty, but I guess it is possible for this to happen for 2 reasons.

1. BMW and Audi's 1 and A3 Cabrios.
2. The "CLC" is now a new model designation so the line has to be filled out with different variants per Mercedes' usual practice.

Please don't tell me it is still going to retail for 28k

But you can all tuck away your puke bags because the article only states that the car could need a convertible sister.

Re: New C-Class Sportcoupe aka CLC (Spy pics & info)

Mmm, not sure if I am pleased about how the back looks with that huge lights...It is far from being horrible, but it isn't a beauty either.
The front-end looks very good to me, with those C-Class shaped headlamps.

But, all in all, I would have wanted something different, a completely new car to demolish the opponents and set new standards in its class. I simply cannot understand why Merc didn't want to build a new model, not just one with a major facelift!
Quite a shame, really!
