That's interesting, this summer I intend to get some work experience at a dealership, hopefully BMW, because it will be useful for applying to university due to me wanting to study automotive engineering. Have you got any tips of what I should say to get a work placement?

Just tell them you're passionate about cars and you're here to learn a bit about the business, especially about your favorite brand. That's what I did and they took me in. Although in my small town, many people know I am a Mercedes fan so I guess that helped.

Do emphasize that you're a car fanatic. That's one of the main things they look for!

I was thinking of going around right after the M3 came out, to show I know what I was talking about but ran out of time. Although another possible entry, is my Mum is a Dentist, and one of her patients said he worked for Jaguar, and if there was a favour he could do for her, he would. I could settle for Jaguar, it's only just down the road from BMW!

Seriously though, that's great. Connections are always good. I would ask this guy what he thinks your chances are of getting a summer job or an internship with a car dealership. If he's nice, he'll tell you that you could start over at his Jaguar dealership.

How old are you, if I may ask? If you've got a lot of driving experience and make a mature and controlled impression, I am sure they'll let you drive cars. I've been driving since I was 16 (I'm 24 now).

I'm only 17, had my licence for just over 3 months, so I'm guessing they would let me drive!

I'd say I'm a good driver, just rather fast, got the golf up to 120mph the other day!

I think you might be too young for them to trust you with a car. No offense, but in such cases, someone who's older makes a more experienced impression and that's important when driving any car. I could be wrong though but that's how I would handle.

For all you know, you could apply and they'll give you a deskjob!

I tried BMW, MB and Audi for work experience yesterday!

BMW said they didn't do such a thing, MB said they were full for the summer and Audi will get back to me. Hopefully I'll get a place at either Audi or Jaguar, or I'll have to try Renault and Peugeot!

Well, I must disagree. The steering is a bit too light and it lacks same precision and sharpness as BMW 3. Some plastics at the top of the console are of A-class quality rather than E-class. The 5-gear auto keeps engine at too low revs when you cruise and you have to wind it up with the tip-tronic option if you do not like to hear the engine suffocating and vibrating.

The engine as for the one with piezoelectric injectors is too noisy and is not any quieter than older BMW 320d.

I wrote such detailed responses to you and they dissapeared when the forum ISP was changed. I hope you read them because I am too lazy to repeat myself!

I just can't relate to what you've said, because I didn't feel it when I drove the car.

The only part where I agree with you is a slightly delayed response when doing a kickdown at almost walking speed. Other than that, the car made a very good impression on me.

just can't wait until I get a chance to drive 320cdi 4-matic. am I little bit disappointed as well as to the car refinement - two test drives I have read recently gave a 69db at 130km/h (it is not too impressive) - do you have any further data in that area that could make me feel more optimistic?

I was thinking about the 220cdi and its refinement as I was expecting the outcome of 66/67db at 130km/h but looks like it was far to optimistic

The C220 CDI at cruising speed is quite quiet. The only time you hear the diesel engine is if you're giving a little gas or a kickdown. I didn't find those few occassions to be dissapointing in the least regard. To me, the C220 CDI at kickdown sounds almost like a V8 Muscle Car, almost.

again, this is very subjective observation and as you form an opinion on such, I will give you mine. BMW 320d touring on run-flat tyres that I drive very often is quieter at cruising speed.

I have the same to say about the C220 CDI. At cruising speed, I couldn't hear much. I've never driven or ridden in a BMW 320d, so I can't comment on that though.

Hi i need help i was planning to replace my c270cdi with a c320cdi but now with my budget and all the extras i want i dont think i can buy a 320cdi,,,for those who can help me please to tell me whetehr the new 220cdi is compared to the old 270 cdi power wise please do advise me and tell me what you think..thank you i advance

The current C220 CDI has 170-horsepower, which is on par with the old W203 C270 CDI. There might be a diesel option inbetween the current C220 CDI and C320 CDI, namely the C280 CDI.

I suppose for your needs a C220 CDI should be sufficient, especially since it has 170-horsepower and is generally a quick car. Hope this helps.

i wanted the power but my budget wont allow it

i used my 270 for 2 years it was good power without being amazing,,,but i was happy with the power i no you tested the 220cdi and just wanna no if you drove a old 270 what u feel which is quicker and so on ,,,

also i read a few people say the auto changes are slow and that the engine is not refined whats your view

If you want power, the C220 CDI does a pretty good job. It's not blissteringly fast like the C320 CDI, but it's basically on par with the old C270 CDI now (which I have also testdriven). Essentially you're getting a car with the same (or better) performance as your old C270 CDI, but with improved fuel economy ratings and build quality and handling.

I found the C220 CDI to be quite refined. The engine can still be heard, but it's not that loud and once you're sitting inside the car, the cabin does a good job of keeping most exterior noises outside where they belong.

I cannot relate to the 5-speed automatic transmission "shifting slow", because I experienced the complete opposite. The shifts are perfectly fine and shift changes are quite quick. There is however a slight delay at low speeds when you do a kickdown or press the accelerator. We're talking speeds under 40 km/h, I think I explained it in one of the videos.
