Re: Bentley drops new Brooklands coupe in Geneva

Hey Artist,

You have sophisticated tastes -- I'm never sure if you are going to love or hate something -- but you are always very definite about what you do and do not like.

This new Bentley is probably the most aristocratic car in the world today. The Rolls-Royce Phantom DHC is really great, but the impression it makes the most is "money money money". This Bentley makes an altogether different impression: understated, refined, and even mysterious.

I would change those wheels though. Maybe these:

Re: Bentley drops new Brooklands coupe in Geneva

The Brooklands is my type of car. I'm a big fan of the good old oxford styling and could really see myself parking the car outside Harrods while walking inside the building for some Belgium chocolate and swiss cheese on the lower gounrd floor.

I hope the new Arnage won't be so in-your-face as the new RRs - Bentleys have always been about being subtle.

Re: Bentley drops new Brooklands coupe in Geneva

the roller and the Brooklands are targeted at two different types of owners i think.
As much as I love the DHC this just has some old world British elegance and charm about it that i cannot get over. It would be a tough choice between these two but the Bentley may win out...with a different set of rims, maybe the ones Rob posted

Not really - in my first encounter with an Arnage, I thought it was a really old Mercedes. Only after reading about Bentleys, I began to appreciate them.

True, Bentley has more models and out sales Rolls and Maybach. But Rolls only has one car and thats the Phantom. Of course when the Coupe comes out that will only be two compare to the Maybach 1 (57&62 one body style).

I think Maybach has to define then design identity a little more with a new model. The Excelero was a good idea of how distinct a Maybach could be.

What about the Ocean Drive Concept HOH, do you think that maybe it should be developed in to a Maybach production car?

Re: Bentley drops new Brooklands coupe in Geneva

I appreciate what they're gunning for with the Booklands, but I think it's just a bore. I'm not seeing "classic" in these lines, I'm seeing "dated."

Count me disappointed. The CGT and Flying Spur signaled a marvelous direction for the brand, but this just feels too dry to me.

I don't think it should Rob. The design is too 'Mercedes'. Maybach needs to establish it's own design identity.

Re: Bentley drops new Brooklands coupe in Geneva

^^You're right Mr.Mercedes. Maybach needs to be designed from scratch. They need to get some new designers for Maybach, or at least tell the current designers that who ever uses MB design cues for the Maybach will get an ass-whooping.
