In Autocar’s latest issue, Mr Nic Cackett compares the latest super-cabrios from Germany, the BMW M6 and the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG, with Britain’s finest, the Jaguar XKR-S. All three cars are sitting in the £100k, with the Jag coming with a 5.0l supercharged V8 with 542bhp, the SL63 with a 5.5l twin turbo V8 with 537bhp and the M6, the most powerful of the team, with a 552bhp 4.4l twin turbo V8. We won’t spoil the details, but we will spoil the choice of Autocar’s team, the Jaguar XKR-S, as they found it to be “loud, raw and right now”. The SL63 came second, despite its “conspicuous riches reward more appropriately and more often”. The M6 came third, as it was found to be “too big, bruising, unwieldy and inaudible to tussle seriously with the top two”, even though it had a great tamperament and was the most engaging car to drive.
