For those who think the Audi A1 Quattro is too extreme or expensive, Audi is working on a new pocket rocket version of the A1 super mini. Spotted as a 3 door hatch before at the Nürburgring, this is the first time we see a prototype for the S1 Sportback. This S1 Sportback prototype is sporting the quad exhaust pipes usually found on the S-Models so there might be a big chance to see the S1 as both 3 door hatch and 5 door Sportback.
On the other hand, since the A1 Quattro was limited to just 333 units Audi might still want a car with equal performance but with a milder and less extreme body kit to fulfill the demands of the customers. And if they offer the S1 in both body versions they will probably find more customers for it.
This prototype has a version of the 2.0 liter TFSI delivering some 220-240 horsepower powering all four wheels via Audis Quattro system and was driving together with an Audi S3.
And this might be the reason why Audi was saving the S1 name and didn’t use it on the A1 Quattro?
