German football magazine "kicker" took delivery of 22 AUDI A4 Avant and ten AUDI A6 Avant which will be used by 32 sports journalists for the period of the World Championship.

Audi seems to be giving out their cars to a lot of events lately, I wonder if BMW and MB do as well but we never hear about it!

Audi needs more promotion of this kind to show the elite it is in the same league as MB & BMW. So they are lending / "giving away" such promotional cars. In Europe Audi have the biggest fleet of A8, A6 & now also Q7 protocol cars - for big political events (e.g. G8 summits, EU summits, etc). To show off. It's a very good promotion.

BMW are doing that on limited base: they cover some political events in Asia mainly (where they have to prove against MB) with their protocol fleet, and worldwide sailing & golf events mainly.

And BMW are also preparing a fleet of hydrogen / gasoline 7-series hybrids for French EU presidency in 2nd half of 2008 for sure. But they are working hard to offer some limited fleet in first half of 2007 already - for German EU presidency. Therefore Total & BMW have opened hydrogen operating public filling stations in Berlin, Munich & Paris. The fleet will promote BMW & Total as leading companies in hydrogen power, while EU will show their serious intention to support clean energy solutions. Energy policy will be a very important issue in the next year in EU.

After reading the press release i believe that Kicker actually leased the cars so Audi didn't gave them for free.
