Finally a renewal of the 4.2 L in the A6 and A8.

4.2 FSI Now for Audi A6 and A8

One of the world’s most modern eight-cylinder engines is now available for the Audi A6 and A8 model lines. The 4.2 FSI, closely related to the high-revving V8 in the Audi RS 4, develops considerably more power than its 335 bhp predecessor. With the aid of petrol direct injection, it now generates 350 bhp (257 kW). And at the same time, its fuel consumption is around 10 percent lower. The immense power of the eight-cylinder engine is transferred via 6-speed tiptronic transmission and quattro permanent four-wheel drive.

The new engine is available in the new 2007 model year for all A6 models and for the standard-wheelbase and long-wheelbase versions of the A8. The basic prices are € 61,300 for the A6 4.2 FSI quattro saloon and € 76,200 for the
A8 4.2 FSI quattro.

The A6 3.0 TDI quattro will now also receive more power – in future, like the Audi A8, it will generate 171 kW (233 bhp, instead of the previous 225 bhp).

Also available for both model lines is the Audi parking system advanced, which aids the driver with a wide-angle rear-view camera when parking. The completely distortion-free images contain guidance lines which show the line the car should follow and the distance to obstacles based on the steering angle. This is a system which has already proved itself in the Audi Q7 and which received nothing but praise from the media on making its debut.

In the cockpit of the Audi A8, a 5-inch central display will be a standard feature of the driver information system, replacing the 3-inch monitor used up to now. This has the advantage of an improved and enlarged display of information on navigation, consumption and range. Further information can also be shown in parallel on the colour display.

Rear passengers can also enjoy a new perspective in the 2007 model year of the A8 and A8L if desired: with the Rear Seat Entertainment plus system from quattro GmbH, they will in future have the option of watching TV via monitors in the head restraints of the front seats while travelling. The system is operated via remote control from the rear.

At last, Audi where falling behind in the power of the V8!

Great news, would have liked to have seen something like "400hp", but hey, I'm sure this upgrade is more than sufficent.

They had to do this with A6 since both 5er and E-class got engine updates. If not Audi would really be underpowered.

Re: Finally a renewal of the 4.2 L in the A6 and A8

Does Audi have a bigger standard V8 waiting in the wings? Otherwise when MB introduces direct injection to their V8's (which seems no more than a year away now), the Audi 4.2 will be comprehensively outpowered.

A8 & A6 get FSI V8 for '07

Quote:
Audi: Audi FSI advantage now also for V8 A6 and A8

Four Audi A6 and A8 models reap the performance and economy benefits of the latest Audi V8 engine with advanced FSI direct petrol injection technology from this week. Priced from Ł44,475, the new A6 4.2 FSI quattro Saloon and Avant variants are available to order now, as are the standard and long wheel base A8 4.2 FSI quattros, priced from Ł58,305 OTR. Deliveries of all models to UK customers are due to commence in July.

- New A6 4.2 FSI quattro models now available to order at Ł44,475 OTR for the Saloon and Ł45,745 for the Avant
- New A8 4.2 FSI quattro models now available to order in standard and long wheel base forms at Ł58,305 OTR and Ł61,685 OTR
- 4.2-litre V8 engine with FSI direct petrol injection first seen in Q7 quattro delivers 350PS at 6,800rpm and 440Nm at 3,500rpm
- A6 0-62mph in 5.9 secs, top speed limited to 155mph, combined mpg 26.1, C02 257g/km
- A8 0-62mph in 6.1 secs, top speed limited to 155mph, combined mpg 23.9, C02 283g/km

Fresh from its debut in the Q7 quattro SUV and A6 allroad quattro, the new 350PS 4.2-litre FSI engine replaces the 4.2-litre, 335PS unit that has powered A6 and A8 models since launch. It delivers a maximum of 350PS at 6,800rpm, and peak torque of 440Nm from 3,500rpm, enabling A6 4.2 FSI quattro models to accelerate from rest to 62mph in 5.9 seconds, A8 4.2 FSI quattros to go the distance in 6.1 seconds and all versions to reach a governed top speed of 155mph.

The extremely precisely metered fuel injection made possible by the FSI system not only maximises performance in these new models, but also ensures that they return fuel economy figures that exceed expectations for high-output V8-powered luxury cars. The A6 4.2 FSI quattro can cover up to 26.1mpg, and its A8 counterpart up to 23.9mpg.

Despite being more powerful and quicker off the mark than its predecessor, the new A6 4.2 FSI quattro nevertheless has the potential to cover an additional 39 miles on each tank of fuel, and its A8 counterpart an additional 47 miles. This means that drivers effectively enjoy the benefits of what equates to more than a gallon of extra petrol at no extra cost.

FSI lean-burn technology makes these benefits possible through outstandingly efficient distribution of fuel directly into the cylinders via a high-pressure common rail injection system. It first proved its worth in the R8 sports cars, which won 62 of the 79 races it has contested so far, including 5 victories in the Le Mans 24-hour marathon race. It now boosts efficiency in A3, A4, A6 and A6 allroad quattro, A8 and new TT models.

This is good news indeed. I wonder if the Phaeton 4.2 V8 will get this engine as well... If I'm not wrong, the facelift is due for 2007.

i think Phaeton is a project that proved failure. Phaeton should be removed from production line within 2009, i guess.

Too bad FSI isn't as advantageous on this side of the pond as it is in Europe.

That is only a minor upgrade , just wait untill you see the new engines with Valvelift. The 3.2 lt will have 300 hp and the 4.2 one 390-400 hp.
