Mirage77's Audi Revelations

It was the best automotive event I have attended so far. It was flawlessly planned - the food was good, the cars were fantastic and the people, beautiful. I was reluctant to go at first but in the end the sacrifice of my schoolwork was well worth it.

Luckily this time I brought my camera, unlike for the GranTurismo launch, so I have some better pictures. I'm still experimenting with the DSLR so some shots do appear grainy.


A live band was playing great jazz music.

Audi has stepped up their marketing efforts by a lot in Singapore. There is at least one such event each month, and they amount of money they put into it is just phenomenal. Just for this event, they built a whole stage, flew in a LHD S5 specially for the night, and borrowed some of the S cars from present owners to be showcased at the event. Door gifts were also generous - an Audi wallet in nappa leather. Overall I'm very, very satisfied. This is far better managed than the GranTurismo launch.

Damnit James. I envy you for going to these kick ass events.

Very nice photos as usual James, it looks like Audi has thrown an awsome party, the venue looks very well designed. Was it held inside the dealership or at some specific location? What do you think of the A5 in real life? Does it look sensational, and better than the 3 series coupe or not?

nice coverage of the event, i must say the audi S5 looks stunning. about the grainy noise problem try using a lower ISO setting

It was held at this location, where the Granturismo was also launched. It's the hot place for new car launches now because it's where many new houses are being built - multimillion dollar ones. The whole project can be likened to what is being done in Dubai, albeit at a smaller scale.

I must say I was pretty disappointed with the S5. I'll copy over my thoughts from the S5 thread here:

The car looks great, no doubt, but it fell short of my expectations.

1. Interior buttons are plasticky, unlike those in say, the B7 A4 or the D3 A8. Maybe to correct wear and tear issues, but they feel cheaper.

2. Rear bumper extends a little too far out.

3. Car sounds really soft. Almost unlike an S model.

4. Front LEDs impressive when seen from far, but it just looks a little too complicated on close inspection. LEDs on the R8 were better executed.

5. C-pillar is HUGE in person - makes the car look a little like a sportback.

6. Curving shoulder line almost imperceptible when close to the car.

Better than a 3er coupé? Hardly - I would say... Just as good looking. But I'm not a fan of either.

I feel so foolish now... I was just adjusting shutter speed all along, not caring about other settings.

I change my mind about the S5, it's an amazing car, amazing value!

Nice pics man. Looks like a pretty big and awesome event. The stuff you brought up about the S5 is interesting. I'm going to have to keep that in mind when I see on in person.

It indeed was huge. Got to see many RS4s and S8s up close.
