| Proud to be an American... car owner? Well not yet, but w/ the advent of the RWD car renissance at GM, I could very well pull up in my driveway behind the wheel of the new Camaro. I've always loved American cars(GM's and many Chryslers, despise Ford) because they have given me a sense of pride in my country and our capabilities, they're easy maitenence, have cool and original styling, muscle, and a strong heritage. I've grown up around many of these cars, as they are very much the landscape of much of the country(granted, some places more thann others). I came to have a strong admiration and apperciation for European cars(Germans above all), and favored them more so than my native American brands. Now that I've grown up and all the improvements made to the quality of these cars, yes, even w/ the euro automotive press constantly slamming American cars no matter how hard the brands try(almost seems trivial and deliberate), I have an even stronger love for them than I have ever had before. I'm more pround in this moment, thanks to the new Camaro, Chrysler LX cars(yes, thank you MB), and perhaps a tiny pony(that is to be eaten by a big shark). So w/ all that said, I present to you some of my favorite American cars... Very well may be my NEXT car... ![]() ![]() ![]() CTS-V ![]() ![]() Corvette C6 Z06 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Re: Proud to be an American... I remember in 1972 or thereabouts a swedish multi-millionaire came to my hometown in Finland on a ferry that carries lots of cars. He had a brand new Cadillac. Don't remember the model. My hometown's newspaper went to see this rare car, took pictures of it and interviewed the guy. What I remember about the article was the guy saying: He could have bought a Rolls Royce, but then again, the Rolls is not a Cadillac. That's how respected Cadillac was in Scandinavia at the time. Growing up, the majority of the flashy and sought after cars were American. But of course very few were able to afford them at the time in Finland. The American cars have most of the time, but definitely in the 50s and 60s, had designs that made one wonder why the others don't see how much more beautiful these cars are than their European and Japanese counterparts. Anyhow, I am glad the Europeans and Japanese caught on to the "let's build cars that are actually nice looking too" - idea. By the way, I am talking mainly about the "mass" production cars. I am not touching on the "how about the MB 540K " or similar issues here. But anyway, times changed and seems like they are changing again. Happy to see some beautiful American cars that are great performers too. The Corvette is such an under-rated and really awesome car as are others too. If you end up getting the new Camaro, good for you and looking forward to hearing about it.

| Re: Proud to be an American... American cars are still more respected in Finland than Europe in general. Even standard American family cars are, for reasons that are beyond me, often considered more luxurious and prestigious than their Euro counterparts.

| Re: Proud to be an American... Damn that Camaro is such a stuner. I also adore the Mustang Shelby GT 500. Wish they would put some wicked turbo diesel and bring it to Europe too. The way I see it GM/Ford/CCG needs to make such cars the rule, not the exception. |
