Da Silva didn't design A5. I even doubt he designed any of Audi cars since design chiefs usually do not design cars.

Check the sketches: some guy named "Wada" (?) is signed under the exterior sketches, and a guy named "Guinart" (?) under the interior sketches of A5.

So, VdS is taking credits for something he didn't do it by himself.
Isn't that a bit unfair & unprofessional.


Btw, I have never heard any design chief taking credits for a particular design. They usually use words "we designed", or "our design".

Design chiefs give design directions , even if they don't actually do the design , they guide the designers how to do the details ect.

So the A5 was designed under De Silva's supervision and in that sense it's his work.

No it isn't.
It's right that design chiefs give the directions but that doesn't mean that every work that comes out of the studio is their own. It's unfair and disrespectful towards the designer who actually did all the work. I bet he's quite pissed off of his chief for bringing this statement in every interview about the A5!
It's sometimes understandable when the press credits chief designers for every car from their studios (they still insist that Bangle designed the 7er!) but I don't understad why a design chief himself claims such things

I'm not ruining anything.

I'm just pointing out what bothers me since VdS had made that claim. I doubt it at that time already, but still left a small window open for a possibility he really did design the car by himself. But now - looking at those A5 sketches seeing other people are signed under the ext & int designs - it was natural to me to point that out.

Like I said: never has a single design chief taken a credit for a particular design (designed by a member of his department). They either say who actually design it, or credit the whole department using words "we" or "our".

Imagine how would you feel if you were S. Wada.

So because the sketch says wada that means that Walter de Silva didn't actually designed the A5 and he is stealing someone else's credits.

Yannis, investigate! In the case I'm wrong you could immediately delete all my posts in this thread, and I'll apologize to everyone here I doubt Mr da Silva. But I need a proof first. Find it if you can.

Anyway, da Silva didn't design the car. It's even stated in Auto&Design magazine.
The name of the designer is Satoshi Wada. He's Japanese as you can tell by his name.

Yes but did actually Wada did the design himself? Or did he just signed in the sketch?

Audi designers are evil and mean , he might have stolen the design from someone else.

Perhaps WdS was so kind he allowed Mr Wada to sign under the design sketch that was actually made by da Silva himself.





Now I wonder was the claim by WdS (that he designed A5) intentional, or was Mr da Silva just so clumsy when formulating the sentence / claim.



Anyway ... the situation is indeed a bit awkward. Especially for Mr. Wada.

As I said before: Satoshi Wada is the designer of the A5. daSilva didn't draw a single line on it. Did you think that daSilva "told" the design to Wada and he drew it? C'mon..

Boy I tell ya that DaSilva guy sure is a piece of sh!t! You mean to tell me this guy had the nerve to say it's his design and not this Wang guy? A few questions I'm wondering about just in case any of you know the answer..

1) Is he out of a job for spread such outragous lies?

2) How could he get away with making such claims, wouldn't somebody speak up about this?

3) I'm assuming he'll be getting sued in the near future for stealing Mr.Wangs design (trademark infringement or something along those lines) right?

4) If the answer is know to all three of these questions then Mr. DeSilva is the designer of the A/S5. I highly doubt such claims could be made merely because you oversee the project. But hey, what do I know....

I don't believe that Wada designed the cars himself. Probably Wada stole it from someone else and then De Silva stole it from Wada. Next thing we know Winterkorn will come out saying that he designed the A5 himself.

Nope! The design is a proporty of Audi. Suing isn't an issue here at all.

2. Who? Audi officials? "Journalists"? Audi won't do it - that would mean shooting themselves in their own leg. A PR fiasco. Mr. Wada won't do it - since he could lose his job. Journalists? Do they really care?

Btw, I do not believe you have more problem with that that I ("official GCZ Audi-basher") pointed out that issue, than with WdS "stealing" the credit for A5 design.

Disregard the legal aspect I was trying to point out, what about from a resume stand point. Would Wang have the ability to credit the A/S5 as part of his body of work, or does DeSilva have that right, or neither?

O fcourse he can. He can't sue Audi for using the design, but he still can say that he's the designer of the car. And everyone would believe him ecxept Yannis. daSilva would be lying if he put the A5 in his portfolio, because he didn't design it. Only Yannis would believe him.

He didn't blew anything. Audi is proud to have him as head designer and the whole "the most beautiful car i ever made" thing was a well organized promotion of the A5.

So that was the direction that he was given from the executives (probably Winterkorn himself).

Now that you know the truth i hope that you will leave the guy alone. He is just doing his job.

Now I'll be evil and bring BMW into the game.

Eg. lately when X5, CS Concept & X6 Concept were presented exterior (and in some cases also the interior) designers were credited, and were able to present their designs via interviews, BMW-made video promos, were pictured in official promo photos included in press kit, and were present at premieres of "their babies".

Have you ever seen any Audi designer being able to do that? No. Even worse: one of them even left without any credits since his boss claimed he personally had the credit for A5 design. Lame.

Off topic , this is a thread about A5 design , we don't care what BMW does.
