F01/F02 BMW 7er - Spy Pics & Info

I expected this to hit us by the end of the year, but it came few months earlier ...

F01 7er in heavy camo - emulating pre-facelifted E65:

Expect X6 prototypes to hit the roads soon as well (by the end of the year).

Scott's F01/2 info from a year ago:

In design the radical approach is very much in element - snake like eyes surround a widened twin kidney grille . a strong shoulder line connects the mid section of the body and the rear lights wrap onto the bootlid. The LWB features larger shaped front lights and a long light strip along the rear trunk lid. Engines will start from new V8 including twin turbo , petrol and diesel , a new twin turbo V12 and next generation top line diesel engine , hydrogen power will also be available from the start of production.

And then finally Because of the proposals of using lightweight efficiency the 7er will be engineered to be lighter than it's previous incarnations. The new 7er will also commit platform modules that will be shared with the new small Rolls-Royce.

With the advance to make the 7er more lighter the next generation car will eventually herald the arrival of an M7.

This one looks like its gonna be ugly aswell. BMW should just start all over with the 7er design, instead of evolutionising it.

Your comments about BMWs are starting to repeat themselves, and therefore they are very boring.

Maybe some detailed elaboration of your view would help to improve that.

Everyone is able to say "This is ugly". Even my 4-year old nephew.

I agree with EniLab on your comments!

Also, you can't tell what this car looks like when it has this much camo on, so can't really have an opinion yet!

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

What can be seen from the spy pics is:

- grille & headlights sit lower
- shoulder line sits higher
- greenhouse / roof line is a bit lower, and more curved
- rear window looks longer, more sloped, more coupeish
- trunk / boot lid is not so high anymore (look that rear window continues under the boot lid camo - going more towards rear end which appeared to be shorter)
- the whole car sits lower
- the overall appearance seems much sleeker & sportier than E65's

New 7er is going to be released in 2008, right?

And YoungWarrior's idea is arguable, wheter BMW should evolve original 7er design or develop new...

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

After looking very carefully at the pics, i have to say that this car is gonna look great.

I noticed one thing though. Look how the car ends, where the boot lid rises from the rest of the car. This is a design element taken from volvo, i think.

I disagree, the overall apperance in my mind is far from sleek or sportier than a E65. Hold up I swear there is no such think as a E65 you must mean S65. Either way I disagree.
The 7er to me looks chubby.

I'm a little disappointed they are keeping the same shape for the rear trunk line. Maybe it's just on the mule!?

LOL The car is entirely covered with fake metal parts and going to be launched in near 2009. And still you are seriosly saying that you can see what it looks like? Sorry but:

Im not talking about the small details. I couldnt care less about those. Im talking about the overall shape of the car, and it looks chubby and like a barge boat.

You really do not have a clue ...

E65 is a current version of 7er. Nothing to do with MB S65.

Of course the prototype looks like a boat - since it is cladded with a heavy plastic camo: to emulate E65. While it can be clearly seen a much sleeker shape is hidden behind that camo.

Also: what is the point upsetting BMW fans with your comments - let BMW fans to discuss about new 7er. They are interested in it, while you are obviously not. You already told the whole world you do not like BMW design. There is absolutely no point to repeat yourself like a parot. So ...Thank you very much for your opinion & goodbye.

Im sorry its because the 7er never interested me hence I never read about it to know that E65 is the codename for it.

I think you BMW fans are too sensitive. You guys galavant around everywhere else on this forum putting down other vehicles, yet whenever someone says anything negative about BMW's you guys start crying.

This is a german car forum and I am a fan of ALL german vehicles. I like BMW and want a E46. I have nothing agaisnt BMW, I juust speak my opinion and my opinion on it is just as valid as anyone elses.

I like some new BMW's but overall i think they dropped the ball on several models. Am I not allowed to say that?

At the end of the day we are here to come together to critique cars and have proper discussions, which I am doing.

Of course you are allowed but you should use proper language. The is a difference between "i don't like this car" and "this car looks like cr@p". The first is not offensive the second is.

When you think that another member has crossed the line, just report the post or PM a moderator. That's why moderators are here for. Retaliation is not the right answer believe me.

Thanks.

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

It's amazing that some individuals quote the artificial comments from web forums or messageboards such as "Autospies" In when a prototype is scooped for the first time they are quick to announce that the styling which is underneath heavy disguise will be ugly , wrong and an insult of BMW tradition - we kicked Tradition into touch long ago with the E65 and it started a revolution which in the end game gave victory - The No1 premium luxury car manufacturer from the grasp of Mercedes-Benz.

A Title achieved by manufacturing and designing cars that people want to buy . I seen a pre-facelift E65 from 2001 the other day and it still looks as current and modern even though the F01 has hit the streets of Munich.
In Final evaluation of selected Design for a new model BMW's computer artist dept model the car in animation and have it moving to simulate what it's will be like when moving.

From the E65 7er to the E70 X5 the circle is complete, Now the stage is set beginning with the F01 to start a new era for BMW .
This car will again polarize opinion but thats how we operate by defying conventional approaches and polarizing opinions.

It's a F01 prototype (real F01 body under the heavy plastic camo which emulates E65 7er).

"Mule" is usually refered to an existing vehicle / model carrying components (eg. suspension, drivetrain, engine etc) of a new completely model / vehicle.

It sounds like this car is going to have some really powerful engines. A V12 TT wow. That thing is going to be a rocket-I guess they really needed a model that could adequetly compete with the S600 and I suppose the M7 will be a S65/63 competitor. Looks good.

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

I saw these pictures on anothert board first, and without reading Eni's comments, the first thing that came to mind is: damn, even with all this cladding, this thing looks sleaker and smaller, more elegant. Realy looking forward to this car, it's gonna be a long wait
