I just checked what our Danish friends pay for the 760Li: 3,019,000 Danish krones which is around €405,670 or $595,120. Now that's expensive.

Norwegians on the other hand "only" pay 2,448,200 Norwegian krones which is about €287,960 or $422,430.

I know that Denmark and Norway are sick... here in Sweden it would only be $200,000.

Hmm...judging from the amount their charging some of you no wonder BMW is making all that profit. They got you all paying Rolls-Royce and Ferrari money for a BMW. Shameful!

We have VAT rate of 25% (sales tax, to some of you) here in Sweden, that accounts for $40,000 of that price. Still, that is $160,000 without taxes.

I know that registration fees account for about half the total price in both Norway and Denmark.

Uhm, it's not just BMWs that cost that much in Denmark (or Norway or Holland). You can say the same for any luxury brand, MB included. So your theory how these prices affect BMW's profits compared to competitors' is beyond me.

S 600 Lang (= LWB) costs 3,290,000 Danish krones which is €442,085 or $648,540.

$40k in taxes? WOW...On the other hand $160k for a full loaded 760Li isn't too bad.

Shame on Mercedes too....Glad it's not that expensive over here.

Mercedes or BMW have nothing to do with VAT and registration taxes. These govts are responsible for these insane prices, not the carmakers.

That would be the basic car. If such a car can ever be described as basic. Fully loaded it would be back up at $190,000 without taxes...

I don't know how you all deal with that. That is just way too expensive. No wonder you all prefer small cars, I think I would too for the price their asking.

Well, they also have a higher standard of living in those countries as well. Unlike here where the minimum wage is $8 and even that is crap.

We do not have a standard minimum wage, that sort of things are regulated through collective wage agreements between the employer organisations and the union.

8 bucks, that is a bit low, I think the lowest wage per hour through a collective agreement would be something like 12-13 dollars.

But then we have about 31% tax on income. Unless you make reasonalbe money, then you are up above 50% tax on your income. I know this sounds mad to many here, but that is the reality...

Yeah, but you guys have MANY benefits we don't have. The biggest issue, especially right now, is health care. Right now, many people don't have health care, especially those that make $8 an hour because they don't have benefits.

Lets say your after tax income per hour is $6.5. Now lets do 6.5 x 40 (hrs per wk) = $260. Now do 260 x 4 (weeks a month) = 1040. Now take into account a 1 bedroom appt. where I live is roughly $1000 a month. If you room with someone you can bring it down to may be $500 month. But you also have food, electrical, and phone bills. Basically by the end of you paying all your bills you have nothing. Essentially people live paycheck to paycheck without health insurance. F__k that, I'd rather pay 50% income tax and get health care.

That's why, even though you guys get taxed a lot, it's going towards a higher standard of living and not just some retarded reason. Even then, I'd still rather take a bike than pay $35K for a corolla. LOL

And that pretty much concludes that discussion. Tanks guys, for a very relevant discussion, even if it was mostly on politics.
