When BMW's previous-generation 7 Series, which introduced designer Chris Bangle's "flame-surfacing" styling and new technology such as iDrive, first hit the road in 2002, the car signified a sea change compared with the outgoing model. Many loved the way the new 7 drove, but struggled with its, um, more controversial aspects.

Now the Munich automaker has released information on its U.S.-spec, fifth-generation 2009 BMW 7 Series due in U.S. early next year. With updated styling, lightweight construction, a new twin-turbo V-8, and tons of new safety, technology, and luxury features, BMW's latest flagship represents another significant -- though less divisive -- leap ahead.

rear looks better in real life..
profile as good as the press shots
FRONT is weak..( kinda surprised)

Is it really a new colour?! The "old" 7-series was also available in such a colour. But the car looks so much better on these pictures - the press photos weren't that good…

Rear end is looks sexy as in the press shots but the front is too soft and anonymous and doesn't match the dynamic front end at all.

In the pictures, the front you have to see from close or high res. In this pic of the front, you don't see the 3D effects and you end up with this, while it looks much much better in real. It's taken from too far away and then it was zoomed or something.
The grille is still camoed as well, showing no chrome....and that caving part in the bumper above the foglights is taped.....I have no worries about this.

A car dont always need an aggressive front , at least not a big luxury car. No, I dont feel the new 7er to have less presence than a A8 or a S-class. The new 7er is growing on me.

I don't know but for some reasons this F01reminds me of the glorious E39

Me too. The C pillar looks a lot like the E39 from some angles (like how it flows into the boot), and the grille is pretty much exactly the same, only 5 sizes bigger.

Yeah, I posted about the E39 similarity long back too before it got lost in the bitching.

When you don't have real sports cars, you feel the need to tack on some race car bumpers on everything, even cars that are supposed to be elegant.

No E39 resemblance IRL. From the front the car resembles FL 65, from the rear there are similarities to E31, E32 & E65 FL (the chrome strip, CELIS LED), and CS cues are also there.

lol, B7 does not have an aggressive bumper. Yeah, the graphics suck and I am no fan of it.

Lol well it's a riced 7er and the rivals are much tastefully done IMO of course

Care to point out where the 'rice' part comes in? Besides the badge of course.

Anyway an Alpina is not a BMW, it is a tuning company.

Ive said this before. I owned an E39 (great car btw) and having seen it every day for some years, the F01 reminds me a lot of it, especially in the driving videos from the front of the car.

And yeah it's a not a BMW it's just have the factory warranty and everything is certified by BMW

Anyway I think the bumpers on an Alpina are pretty sublime.

Lol ok,and the bumpers are not sublime at all,sublime would be the S8 ones

Yeah, actually S8 is still my favorite in this class.
