Re: Official: The New BMW 7 Series

Holy crap man. BMW guys came in full swing today and are taking no nagative opinions.

Damn man...this is a F__king forum, just cuz someones doesn't like this car doesn't mean you attack him. Pretty pathetic really.

As for my opinion. It's a nice car. In some angles it's quite bland and in others it's pretty awesome. Also, I love the CELIS LED lights that BMW has but the rear lights on this car don't do it for me. I don't want to compare but I can easily name 3 cars who have similar rear designs and most of the members here have made fun of them.

Yeah well I understand why Scot and Eni will be annoyed, but for just regular members to get pissed is pretty lame.

Not to mention it's just opinion, you can't please everyone.

Thank you for doing this!! You can see how important the wheels are, the "shoes" of a car... I was hesitating - now I know: I like it! That´s the way it should be. And that´s the way my 7 will look like - somewhen in November... Best regards, Swingfan

Re: Official: The New BMW 7 Series

OK... so I'm really late in the game as I'm posting on page 8!!!!

My initial reaction:

*** is that !?

After such a promising teaser shot during the golf tournament, I utterly was shocked and massively disappointed.

After some time mulling over pictures:

After the initial shock I started to look at some of the positive aspects of the car.

The front is not bad, but not as promising as the teaser indicated. The head lights are great but they don’t seem to fit all that well with the design. The skirt could have been a little sportier.

The profile is good, seems a little sleeker then the current version.

The interior looks fantastic, virtually perfect. If only it was in a different shell.

Now what makes this car appear like a monstrosity, are the rear lights. *** is BMW thinking. Not only are the shaped like crap, they appear way too large (kinda like the Lincoln Zephyr, only ten times worse). The rear looks like an amateur design made by low-end tuner shop. To me the rear is completely repulsive and totally unacceptable.

As mush as I defended the E65/66, I don’t think I ca do so anymore. At this point, of the rear is an indication of future BMW, I think I’ve just purchased my last one!

Perhaps salvation will come once I see it on the metal , but until then, that rear (at least in pictures) makes this design look like sh!t.

Nah, I'm pretty relaxed. I just had to defend a few people who only voiced their opinions and got attacked for it. LOL

Re: Official: The New BMW 7 Series

I really think the rear is something special. I guess the concern is the rear lights looks too big in pictures that makes the whole thing looks rather cheap, and we were all used to Bangle butts, but just look at the CS, this is an interpretation of it, but taller. It gives you the feeling of a modern BMW and carrying traditions of BMW, what's the codename for the 7series before E38?
If I was to be disappointed, it would be the front because of the teaser pic, but then it was all expected.

Re: Official: The New BMW 7 Series

Woah woah woah!

I can't believe what I miss when I spend one day away from GCZ.

I hate to say it guys - as somebody who practically made a career at GCF talking about Bangle, Hooydonk and BMW design philosophy I can't put in to words how totally disappointed I am by the F01's design.

It would be one thing if the car was simply a derivative revisit of the E65, but the rear lights are a complete blunder and a missed opportunity. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the lights was "Lexus LS."

For the most part, this is a very handsome, well sclupted car that no doubt will be striking in the flesh. But conceptually, this is a non-starter for BMW.

The interior is very well executed, but the detailing reminds me of Audi - not a bad thing in terms of perceived quality, but the shapes don't make me think "BMW." The E65 blazed a trail on interiors, the F01 appears excellent, but doesn't say anything new.

I'm sorta stunned, and sorta shocked. After seeing the Concept CS I really thought that we'd be witnessing a F01 that would present a new challenge to the public and reset the bar. Instead we have what is arguably the most evolutionary 7er redesign ever.

All in all - it's a very handsome car that gets the job done and the sculpting looks excellent. I could console myself knowing that it's just a perfunctory exercise in excellent design were it not for those rear lights - they're a daft, bawdy and ham-fisted gesture on a car on a surface that really calls for more finesse and refinement.

But where is the wow? It's not here, that's for sure. Believe it - BMW has gone safe.

(DISCLAIMER - I'm prone to flip-flop whenever I have a passionately negative reaction to a new car. So who knows, by this time tomorrow I could be in love with this car.)

100% agree!

me 2 ... I know the rear looks like Lexus LS inspired .. but knowing that design was sealed loong time back as Eni mentioned , i don't think they copied Lexus .. even if they did ... it doesn't look right and that what matters .. anyway its a minor point to me ... car overall looks nice and more elegantly proportioned compared to E65/66 ...

Nevertheless after study and analyse the pictures - especially those of the interior, I have to say "Great job, BMW!" It just underlines my first impression. This car will look great in reality - I hope.
The C5's rear lights are really nice (remind me of Audi) ...I like them a bit more than what BMW has done here.

Overall, I like the new 7er, it is much more conservative than I was expecting ...but maybe that is anticipating a change in the market. The global economy is looking very insecure right now ...people who can afford a car like this, often prefer more conservative things in tougher times.

Some beautiful use of colour/light/texture here. It is obvious that a lot of thought has gone into the details.
