| Webversion from CAR. BMW will launch the new M5 in 2011, the super saloon variant of the F10-series new 5-series family. Our artist's impression reveals how the hot Five will look at launch next March, after a show debut in late 2010 or early 2011. We have the full four-page lowdown from Georg Kacher in the latest January 2010 issue of CAR Magazine, but here are some nuggets to whet your appetite: • 4.4-litre V8 bi-turbo • 578bhp, 530lb ft • 155mph limited top speed • 0-62mph 4.4sec • Unlimited top speed 188mph That direct-injection 4.4 lump is the same engine you'll find under the hood of the X5 M and X6 M, but further tweaked by M Division to liberate more power. Forced induction makes it the first M saloon to be turbocharged. Will there be a new BMW M5 Touring? Not this time. Dog owners in a rush will have to shop at the neighbouring Audi or Mercedes showrooms for RS and AMG variants. We interview Klaus Draeger in the new issue of CAR Magazine, and he discusses the need to downsize and explains how even the new M5 will benefit from Efficient Dynamics. New M5 cleans up its act Yes, even BMW's fastest saloon now concentrates on lowering its CO2. Internal targets are gunning for a 30% drop in emissions and consumption. Find out exactly how BMW has achieved that and read about the latest Munich developments in active aerodynamics in the latest January 2010 issue of CAR Magazine, on sale now. ![]()

| I have to give credit where it's due.. the new E63 has really had an amazing transformation from the W211. The AMG guys realised it wasn't all about hp and torque...I imagine gearing was changed, and from all accounts the chassis dynamics have been greatly improved. Great work by MB and AMG on the new E63! As for the upcoming M5.... with the forced-induction, it's gonna have an amazing bhp/L figure, far ahead of any M5 before it, and certainly superior to its competitors. I'm not that well informed on engine output, so my question is: how is it that BMW produce an engine which achieves such high hp figures with only a 4.4L TT engine?

| ^magic Its the TT part that does it.. its not easy even with TT..but it can be done.. I belive MB will update the E63 with the FL of the E..just in time to match the new M5.. Should be E50 or 55 AMG..and have a Turbo 5l V8.. with about 580 hp

| I think that's pretty much been confirmed by SCOTT that the new M5 will indeed have a CFRP roof. But you do make a good point about the Panamera most likely having a lower center of gravity, but you never know when it comes to BMW and M-Division. Surprises comes standard.

| Was that some CEO statements at the end or pure speculation ? cause that's rather dissappointing. I know 0-200 could be better and M5 isn't really about straighline acceleration, but the competition is tough really, think in 3 years time. |

| Some new Autobild renderings. What we have seen with these renders The new M5 and the M1 will not offer the exact same aerodynamic packets as the M3. |

| Bro, you mean 0 - 100? 'Cause i don't see anywhere in that article a 0 - 200 time... ![]() In any case, i'm more than satisfied with 4.4 time, but yes, i believe it can do better than that, 4.2 let's say... ![]()

| No actually I meant 0-200, the poor 0-100 can be due to RWD but 0-200 could be much better than E60 due to you know, power/transmission .. etc |

| M5 E60 proven several times its faster to 200km/h than BMW claim. Trust me, next M5 is going to be quicker than BMW claims as well.

| Let's not forget that this is purely speculation, but we all know that German manufacturers always claim underrated performance and power figures.

Yes, but we've heard 578 hp from two different sources now...it's a very specific number and because of that there may be some truth to it.....especially when Scott doesn't say anything about those numbers.

| As far as I remember the information in Autocar was for 578 "bhp" which should be about 586 hp, and also will the m5 have different front suspenssion than the standard 5 - MacPherson struts against double wishbone, and aluminium space frame for the front like the e60 ??? |
