It truly is everything you need in one excellent package.

Although I would definetly wait for some of the upcoming BMW stuff on the agenda. After seeing them I would immediately buy BMW stock.
The MINI Speedster and MINI Broadspeed Coupe - If Porsche done a MINI? and the Z2 Twins especially the Roadster which rear end is similar to the new Jaguar XJ except the bootlid is compact and meets the rear bumper which allows the lights to be compact and appear at the bottom similar to the Z8 even though the gradient is not as low as the Z8.
And many others suggests that BMW have an exciting future ahead.
Will this Mini be rear-wheel-drive??

It's the best car in the real world as it stands but I have had a drive of the F10 and wooooooooooooow!!!!!!

And no I do not have as many MINI's as T.

The MINI Speedster and MINI Broadspeed Coupe are intentionally FWD to retain the MINI go-Kart feeling . They are the response to the people who are being particularly vocal about the MINI crossover that MINI has lost it's direction etc... MINI Crossover and MINI Spacebox will be the only four door MINI's. Broadspeed is taken from the MINI History - Google it.

Read this: Spy shots: BMW's next-gen 1-series takes to the ?Ring - [2012 BMW 1-series Hatchback] - MotorAuthority - Car news, reviews, spy shots

So they seem to be for recording data concerning the forces at each wheel, usually used for the development and tuning of AWD-systems. We will see

john5 has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I have to admit that new 1 series looks wider and probably a lot more taut in its driving characteristics, atleast I hope so.

I don't really mind if the driving characteristics stay the same. Having driven one, i would say that it's almost perfect.

Tough luck with that man. With all the new gizmos and "safety" features, it will most likely be heavier. If we're lucky, it might be the same weight.

One can hope tho that eventually (maybe not in this next generation) cars will start to get lighter as manufacturers have to start complying with more stringent MPG requirements through the use of more efficient engines and reduced weights

Expect the weight loss in the next iteration after this one. It's too soon to respond to what the new regulations demand. Even many of those don't go into effect until 2015 or so.

BMW produces lighter, stronger parts

Gerhard Mauerer
Automotive News
July 13, 2009 - 12:26 pm ET

DINGOLFING -- In the midst of the financial crisis, BMW is spending 50 million euros ($69.7 million) on an innovative press hardening facility at its Dingolfing plant.

In all, the premium automaker plans to invest several hundred million euros in the plant in 2009 and 2010."Anyone who saves money in the wrong area in tough times is putting his competitiveness at risk over the long-term," said Frank-Peter Arndt, BMW's production chief. "And I doubt that you can survive that way in the long run."

During "cutthroat competition," innovative technologies are more important than ever, he said.
BMW will make high strength body parts such as chassis beams and side skirts with the new press hardening process.

Saving pounds
It will be the first use of press hardening technology in the auto industry anywhere in the world, BMW said. It makes it possible to construct high-strength components at lower weights.
The new process cuts vehicle weight by almost 51 pounds. This in turn shrinks fuel consumption by up to 0.1 liter per 100 kilometers driven, or just under half a cup of gasoline for every 62 miles.

The new facility thus contributes to BMW's "efficient dynamics" program, an effort to improve vehicle performance along a range of fronts.

The 5 Series Gran Turismo will be the first model using these components. Over the next three years, eight more new BMW models will incorporate components from the facility.
The Dingolfing press facility will supply BMW's factory network worldwide.

Hot to cold
In the new press process, galvanized sheet steel is pressed cold before being heated to 1,670 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, still glowing red, it is placed in the new press equipment, which cools it down to 158 degrees Fahrenheit, hardening it in the process.

Despite lower weight, its strength is three to four times as great as untreated sheet steel.
The use of galvanized sheet steel also guarantees a high level of rust protection.
The process was developed with the steel technology company Voestalpine Polynorm.
BMW is putting a second press hardening facility into operation in late 2009.
At that point, up to 100 workers will work at both facilities in a three-shift operation.

Well the second press hardening facility will be at the Leipzig plant where the 1er family will call it's manufacturing base, and this technique will be integral to the 1er as well as the next 5er , 6er and so on.

If you remember I talked about sophisticated Bonding techniques in the manufacturing of the new 1er?

At a recent project review they had a next generation 1er Coupe which reflected exactly what Huckfeldt from AutoBild digitally rendered and oh my god in real life the front end design just works on every level .

From the flat LED slit lights to the upturned kidney grille and the circular lamps that stick out adding a very muscular front end.
Even the rear lamps were round with a slit that wrapped around the rear wings at the edge of the boat line design element.
It is certainly more avantgarde than today's car and will seperate more from the next generation hatch with a straight line across like the "bath tub" 2002 style design element in which the new hatch retains a line that as it makes its way along to to the front of the car widens at the front door , forms the wheel arch and ends at the front corner providing a hood that sits above the headlamps.
It was essentially pure classic BMW - Think if the 2002 was like a 911 and how it has progressed over the generations.

Although it was a styling model placed over the current 135i chassis ,The engine specification was mouth watering in regards to the strategy . No six cylinders only four , turbo charged petrol and Specification for 3 sports models including a diesel. Although the worst kept secret is that they will do an M version because they have listed in the project synopsis - Tii , M-Sport , M , M evo.

So this means cars will have parts that will lost longer and provide increased overall efficiency. A very well thought out and admirable achievement as one could expect from BMW.

Exactly, I hardly expect anything else. Like they are going to say, "We are making these cars crappy on purpose so you will be forced to buy a new one every 3 or 4 years." LOL

In essence someone has captured the look the next generation 1er hatch will look like in profile but has over and under exaggerated certain elements. In detail however the character line is much broader to the front of the car and there is X1 type sculpture to re-interpret the 1er's boat line at the hull in the side flanks . The real lights are similar too now forgoing one piece tail lamps for split tail-lamps signifying the BMW Bloodline in all models. The interior takes it's cues from the X1 especially the facia.
